Falconers to Once More Hunt Mountain Hares

An important win for falconry today with the passing of an amendment allowing falconers to once more hunt mountain hares, as they have done traditionally for hundreds of years, as part of Scotland’s rich and diverse cultural heritage. This was passed by a late amendment to Stage 3 to the Animals and Wildlife (Penalties, Protections and Powers) (Scotland) Act 2020.

Huge thanks must go to Barry and Roxanne Blyther for organising the falconers partition and the work they have put into getting this amendment through, with the support from several individual falconers, and supportive lobbying by the International Association for Falconry and the Conservation of Birds of International Association for Falconry and Conservation of Birds of Prey, Scottish Hawk Board, Hawk Board and the British Falconers' Club.
